Twickenham

Twickenham is found in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, some 10 miles south west of central London. Widely known as the home of the Rugby Football Union, the area is home to the world’s largest Rugby Stadium, Twickenham Stadium. Despite its well known modern status, the town also features Marble Hill, York House and Strawberry Hill House, all grand period mansions that are accessible to the public. Going further back in time, Twickenham first gets a documented mention in 704 AD, although evidence has been found of occupation of the area as far back as the early Neolithic period. Through Norman times up to the 18th century the area was known for farming, but with the industrial revolution emerging in Britain, the area gradually developed, and by the 19th century it had become a popular contemporary residential area. The town continues to grow to the present day, and its current population is now over 52,000 people.
